| In British civil engineering, a banksman (also known as a reversing assistant)
is the trained person who directs the operation of a crane, lorry or larger vehicle from the point near where loads are attached and detached. Crane or
large vehicle drivers do not always have clear visibility of the loading or reversing area, so banksman training ensures that organisations meet their
legal requirements and reduce the risk of costly accidents when carrying out commonplace, but dangerous reversing manoeuvres. The banksman is in charge
of the reversing of large vehicles into parking areas using a system of hand
signals or a radio link.
A banksman may also be responsible for the loading/unloading of lorries and directing the movement of other plant. A banskman may also
control the movements of an excavator, by carefully monitoring the bucket for any obstructions or underground services.
On completion of the Banksman Training Course with Global Training Services members will be able to guide a large goods vehicle safely into a designated
area using hand and arm signals.
